Job Description
As we grow our field collections capability, we are looking for a disciplined, self-driven and well-spoken professional to join our team and recover outstanding amounts directly from clients in the field.
Responsibilities
As a Field Collection Officer, you will be responsible exclusively for field-based recovery: visiting clients with aged and overdue accounts, negotiating realistic repayment plans, and collecting payments in line with the vintages and targets assigned by the Collections Manager. This is a field-only role.
What You Will Do
• Aged loan recovery: Visit clients with aged and overdue loans, as per the vintages assigned by the Collections Manager, to persuade them to pay and ensure payment compliance.
• Negotiation: Negotiate practical, mutually acceptable repayment plans and secure commitments to pay (PTPs), following up until the amounts are recovered.
• Field verification: Verify clients' locations, contact details and information on the ground, and assess their financial situation to recommend suitable repayment arrangements.
• Client relationships: Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with clients; explain loan status and repayment options; and address queries and concerns promptly.
• Account monitoring: Monitor client activity and give the Collections Manager regular feedback on account status, risks and recovery prospects.
• Documentation: Keep accurate records of every visit, client interaction and repayment agreement in the system, and update accounts promptly.
• Reporting: Prepare and submit daily, weekly and monthly field collection reports showing performance against target.
• Compliance: Ensure all collection activities comply with company policy, applicable laws and regulations, and ethical standards; handle every recovery professionally.
• Risk management: Identify and report potential risks, fraudulent activity, or accounts where the client cannot be traced, and recommend ways to reduce defaults and improve recovery.
• Performance: Meet and exceed monthly collection targets, continuously improve the recovery rate of your portfolio, and share successful strategies with the team.
• Other: Perform any other related duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
• Minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE); a Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Sales & Marketing or a related field is an added advantage.
• Proven experience in debt collection or field collections, preferably in financial services, microfinance, SACCO or insurance, is highly desirable.
• Strong negotiation and persuasion skills, with the ability to handle rejection, objections and challenging situations calmly.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English and Swahili.
• Good understanding of debt collection processes, regulations and ethical collection practice.
• Ability to work independently, plan routes and manage time effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes high-pressure environment.
• Proficiency in mobile and computer applications for reporting and communication.
• Self-motivated, target-driven and willing to take initiative and solve problems.
• Trustworthy and ethical, with a strong sense of integrity, patience and empathy, and a customer-focused approach.
• Willingness to travel and conduct regular field visits; a valid driving or riding licence is an added advantage.
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct will be required before engagement.
